What documents are required to rent a BMW motorcycle from GS Africa?

To rent a motorcycle, you’ll need a valid motorcycle license, a passport or South African ID, and a credit card for the security deposit. For international travelers, an International Driver’s Permit (IDP) is recommended.

What is the lowest BMW model available in GS Africa’s fleet?

The lowest BMW model in our fleet is the lowered BMW F 800 GS, with a seat height of approximately 76 cm. Additional models are available with lowered seat options, including the BMW R 1300 GS, which features adaptive height control for enhanced comfort and accessibility.

What is the minimum age to rent a BMW motorcycle from GS Africa?

You must be at least 21 years old to rent a BMW motorcycle from GS Africa.

Which BMW motorcycle models are available for rent?

GS Africa offers a range of popular models, starting from the BMW G 310 GS, through to the F 800 GS, F 900 GS, R 1300 GS, and Adventure models. Availability may vary depending on location and season.

Are BMW motorcycles suitable for long-distance touring?

Yes, BMW motorcycles, especially the GS models are ideal for long-distance touring and adventure travel. They offer comfort and can be equipped with luggage units, GPS, and phone mounts to enhance your journey.

Can I take a BMW motorcycle rental across borders?

Yes, GS Africa permits cross-border travel to Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Malawi and Eswatini with prior approval and border exit documentation.

Are luggage and navigation systems included with BMW motorcycle rentals?

We can equip the bike with side panniers and a top box, and we also offer GPS units and phone mounts that can be included in your rental package.

Is insurance included in the BMW rental fee?

Comprehensive insurance is included in the rental price; however, an insurance excess deposit is applicable. In the event of write-off, theft, loss, or damage, the maximum amount the rider is liable for is the insurance excess deposit. Any costs beyond this will be covered by the insurance company.

Can I go off-road with a BMW GS rental?

BMW GS models are designed for off-road adventure and are considered dual-purpose motorcycles. Southern Africa offers a wide range of well-maintained off-road routes, and we’re happy to recommend suitable options while ensuring you have the right insurance coverage for your journey.

Is riding gear available to rent with a BMW motorcycle?

Yes, GS Africa offers a complete gear setup for rent, including helmets, jackets, gloves, boots, pants, and helmet intercoms. Please note that an additional dry cleaning fee applies to ensure all gear is fresh and clean for each use.

Does GS Africa offer guided tours with BMW motorcycles?

Yes, GS Africa offers both self-guided and fully guided BMW motorcycle tours, complete with accommodation and route planning. All BMW models are welcome, so you can choose the one that best suits your needs.

Are one-way BMW rentals possible with GS Africa

Yes, we offer one-way BMW rentals throughout South Africa and neighbouring countries, allowing you to pick up your bike at one location and return it at another. Our main branch is in Cape Town, with additional depots in Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth, the Garden Route, Durban, Namibia, and Kasane. Please note that a return-to-depot fee applies.

What payment methods are accepted for BMW rentals?

GS Africa accepts major credit cards, including VISA, Mastercard, and American Express (subject to a 5% bank fee), as well as EFT bank transfers. A valid credit card is required to secure the insurance excess deposit.

Can I bring a passenger/pillion on a BMW motorcycle rental?

All of our BMW GS models are equipped to accommodate a passenger (pillion) and no need to worry about gear—we offer rentals for both the rider and passenger.

How far in advance should I book my BMW rental?

If you plan to book during our high season (August to April), we recommend reserving at least two months in advance to secure your preferred model.

What is included in my BMW Rental?

The rental includes comprehensive insurance. The allowed kilometres depend on the rental duration. The bike will be fully fueled at pickup, and we ask that you return it with a full tank.
