MONTAGU
260 kms / 161 miles
Your adventure begins at GS Africa’s HQ, where you’ll collect your motorcycles and receive a comprehensive tour briefing. Once geared up, your journey starts with an iconic photograph framed by Table Mountain, one of the New7Wonders of Nature.
As you ride inland to Montagu, the scenery transforms into the rugged beauty of the Klein Karoo, with its dramatic rock formations.
Your day concludes at a contemporary Cape Dutch homestead at the base of the Langeberg Mountains—just steps from the Montagu Museum and minutes from the Montagu Mountain Reserve. Unwind with a 4-course gourmet dinner prepared from fresh, locally sourced ingredients, many grown in the property’s own garden.
OUDTSHOORN
250 kms / 155 miles
Venture into the heart of Route 62 (South Africa’s answer to the legendary US Route 66) and don’t miss the quirky icon Ronnie’s Sex Shop along the way.
Pause in the charming village of Barrydale for coffee and one of their famously indulgent gourmet milkshakes. Then ride through the semi-desert landscapes and the winding 13.4 km Huisrivier Mountain Pass, offering spectacular views, before arriving in Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital of the world.
After a relaxed lunch at a biker-friendly local restaurant, continue to a nearby game reserve to see elephants up close, followed by a guided safari showcasing the region’s remarkable wildlife.
The day concludes with a quintessential South African braai—an authentic open-air culinary experience combining local flavours with warm hospitality.
KNYSNA
133 kms / 75 miles
At dawn, begin the day with a unique Meerkat excursion, quietly observing a family of habituated wild meerkats emerging from their burrows. Enjoy a steaming cup of coffee or tea with traditional South African rusks as the sun rises over the Karoo.
Next, visit an Ostrich Farm to encounter South Africa’s largest bird. Learn about their fascinating biology and behavior, and even have the chance to feed them — an experience both educational and entertaining.
Leave the arid Karoo behind and ascend the majestic Outeniqua Mountain Pass, climbing over 800 metres before descending into the lush, vibrant Garden Route.
The tranquil lakes and forests guide you to the charming town of Knysna. Check into your 4-star hotel at the waterfront, just steps from the lagoon, shopping, and local attractions.
As evening falls, enjoy a 75-minute group cruise across the pristine Knysna Lagoon, gliding past the iconic Knysna Heads into the serene waters of Featherbed Bay—a perfect vantage point to appreciate the region’s natural beauty.
Dinner follows at a Mediterranean-style restaurant at the waterfront overlooking the quay, where a curated menu provides a refined culinary finale to your day.
Anchor Day in Knysna
Today is dedicated to relaxation, exploration, and discovering the many attractions Knysna has to offer. The town is framed by two peninsulas enclosing the serene Knysna River Estuary, just 300 metres apart.
You may visit an impressive private motorcycle collection or join a history tour of Thesen Island. Other options include exploring the enchanting Knysna Forest, gliding across the lagoon by kayak, cycling through town, or simply enjoying a leisurely stroll along the waterfront. For those eager to spend more time in the saddle, optional outrides in the surrounding area are also available.
The day concludes with dinner at one of our favourite local restaurants in Knysna.
ARNISTON
363 kms / 225,5 miles
Leaving the heart of the Garden Route behind, today’s journey takes you westward toward Cape Town, passing through rolling meadowlands as you can decide whether or not you wish to ride the first off-road section of your tour. Ride through the golden wheat fields of the Overberg region and enjoy a unique river crossing over the Breede River on a newly modified pontoon (gentle gravel track for the dual purpose models).
The route continues through the farming town of Bredasdorp, home to one of only two shipwreck museums in the world! The day ends in the picturesque seaside village of Arniston — the only town in South Africa with two official names, also known as Waenhuiskrans. Depending on the tide, you may even have the opportunity to explore a hidden sea cave and capture idyllic ocean photographs.
Hermanus
181 kms / 112 miles
Departing from Arniston, your first stop is Cape Agulhas, where you can capture a photo at the monument marking Africa’s southernmost tip along its dramatic coastline.
The ride continues through Gansbaai, famed for its great white sharks, en route to Hermanus—the world’s whale-watching capital. Your overnight stay overlooks the historic Old Harbour, with rugged coastal scenery providing the perfect backdrop to conclude the day.
Between July and September, Hermanus offers prime opportunities for land-based sightings of Southern Right and Humpback whales.
CAPE TOWN
263 kms | 163 miles
Today is a highlight of stunning scenic landscapes, including a ride along Strandfontein Beach and a visit to the charming colony of the black-and-white, “one mate for life” bird — the iconic African penguin at Boulders Beach.
The legendary Cape of Good Hope within the Cape Point Nature Reserve (where the warm Indian Ocean and the cold Atlantic oceans meet) follows.
Then you will enjoy a breathtaking panoramic drive along Chapman’s Peak offering spectacular coastal views as you pass through the residential suburbs of Llandudno and Camps Bay, before arriving at the harbour town of Hout Bay. The latter is a perfect coffee or lunch break stop en-route to your final destination Cape Town where you will refuel for the last time before returning of your motorcycle(s) to GS Africa’s offices.
Retire to your 4-star hotel at the V&A Waterfront, then enjoy a memorable farewell dinner just steps from your door.
