OUR ITINERARY

The ultimate safari odyssey showcasing four Southern African countries- South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe.

DAY 1 – Cape Town

Arrival in Cape Town

  • Coastal Beach Beneath Mountain Homes

Welcome to Mama Africa’s Tavern of the Seas — Cape Town! After arriving in Cape Town and passing through international arrivals, our dedicated shuttle service will collect you and transfer you to your luxurious 4‑star hotel at the world‑renowned V&A Waterfront — a vibrant hub of restaurants, cafés, boutique shops, and unforgettable experiences.

Once you’ve checked in and had time to freshen up, your tour guide and driver will meet you at the hotel before heading to GS Africa HQ for your official tour briefing. Your evening concludes with a true taste of Africa — a welcome dinner that marks the perfect start to your unforgettable motorcycle adventure across South Africa.

DAY 2 – Franschhoek

86 kms | 53 miles

  • Franschhoek

Ready, set, go! Day two begins with testing your riding companion. You’ll be transferred from your hotel to GS Africa headquarters, where your selected motorcycle awaits. After a short briefing and a quick photo opportunity, the journey starts off with a relaxed ride to Franschhoek – the perfect chance to get comfortable on our roads while soaking in the lush scenery.

The afternoon brings a treat: exploring renowned vineyards and indulging in exceptional tastings, fine dining, and boutique hospitality, immersing yourself in the valley’s rich heritage and breathtaking landscapes. The day concludes with dinner at one of our local favorites, before resting up for the exciting journey to Namibia that lies ahead.

DAY 3 – Clanwilliam

278 kms | 172 miles

  • Cederberg

The drive from Franschhoek to Clanwilliam is one of South Africa’s most scenic routes, combining dramatic mountain passes, wine valleys, and the rugged beauty of the Cederberg. Expect a mix of tar roads through the Cape Winelands and winding gravel stretches closer to Clanwilliam, with landscapes ranging from vineyards to sandstone cliffs and rooibos plantations.

You’ll pause for lunch at a cozy, relaxed coffee shop in Citrusdal before continuing on through gravel sections en route to your overnight stay. Your accommodation in Clanwilliam is centrally located, about 200 km north of Cape Town, and offers a tranquil setting with poolside dining and the chance to enjoy a traditional South African braai.

DAY 4 – Springbok

447 kms | 277 miles

  • Namaqualand

The next day begins with tarred sections as you leave Clanwilliam, before opening up into long gravel stretches. The ride from Clanwilliam to Springbok is a remote and scenic journey through Namaqualand, blending tar and gravel roads with wide open plains, rooibos farms, and striking granite koppies. Unlike the direct N7, this route offers solitude, raw landscapes, and seasonal wildflower displays that make the experience truly memorable.

Your lodge in Springbok is a welcoming, family‑run four‑star guesthouse, offering spacious rooms and a homely atmosphere – complete with resident peacocks and pets that add a touch of charm to your stay.

DAY 5 – Fish River Canyon

320 kms | 198 miles

  • Fish River Canyon

Namibia is calling, and today you’ll cross into the Gem of Africa. The road leads you to the world’s second‑largest canyon, where you’ll pause at the breathtaking Fish River Canyon viewpoint and enjoy lunch—an experience that stands out as one of the highlights of southern Namibia. With outdoor seating, you can relax in the desert air and take in the surrounding scenery.

Your overnight stay is at a quirky, vintage‑themed lodge near the canyon. Renowned for its classic car décor, lively bar, and indulgent Amarula cheesecake, it offers spacious rooms, a swimming pool, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere—making it one of the most memorable places to stay in the Canyon Park.

DAY 6 – Sesriem

569 kms | 353 miles

  • Sesriem

The route then takes you deeper into the heart of Namibia, from Fish River Canyon to Sesriem via Helmeringhausen—one of the country’s most atmospheric drives. Along the way, vast desert plains, rugged mountains, and remote farming settlements unfold, revealing Namibia’s raw beauty and profound solitude.

From Fish River Canyon to Helmeringhausen, gravel roads wind through semi‑desert landscapes, passing sparse settlements, endless horizons, and occasional glimpses of wildlife.

Continuing from Helmeringhausen to Sesriem, remote gravel tracks lead further into the Namib Desert. As you approach Sesriem, the scenery transforms dramatically—towering red dunes rise against the sky, and sweeping desert vistas set the stage for your arrival.

Your overnight stay is at a luxury desert retreat located right at the entrance gate to Namibia’s Namib‑Naukluft National Park. The lodge offers direct access to the iconic red dunes of Sossusvlei, Deadvlei, and Sesriem Canyon, blending comfort and convenience with breathtaking scenery, eco‑conscious design, and warm Namibian hospitality.

DAY 7 – Sesriem

Anchor Day

  • Sossusvlei

Today’s adventure where some of Namibia’s most iconic landscapes await.

Begin your day among the towering red dunes of Sossusvlei, some of the highest in the world. The shifting sands glow in shades of orange and crimson at sunrise, creating unforgettable photo opportunities. Climbing a dune rewards you with sweeping views across the desert.

Next, explore the surreal clay pan of Deadvlei, dotted with ancient, skeletal camelthorn trees that have stood for centuries. The stark contrast of blackened trees against white clay and red dunes makes this one of Namibia’s most photographed sites.

In the afternoon, visit Sesriem Canyon, carved by the Tsauchab River over millions of years. Its narrow passageways and layered rock formations reveal fascinating geological history. Walking through the shaded canyon offers a cool respite from the desert sun.
This day combines adventure, natural wonder, and striking desert scenery—an experience that captures the very essence of Namibia.

DAY 8 – Swakopmund

368 kms | 228 miles

Before dawn, you’ll transfer from your lodge to the launch site near Sesriem. The adventure begins with a hot air balloon excursion — a sunrise flight over the Namib Desert dunes. The flight lasts about an hour, drifting silently above Sossusvlei and Deadvlei, and concludes with a champagne breakfast in the desert.

From there, you’ll continue your journey on your two wheels, riding to Namibia’s premier coastal town, renowned for its German colonial architecture and wide range of activities. Here, you’ll experience the dramatic meeting point of desert dunes and the cold Atlantic Ocean.

Your accommodation is a four‑star beachfront landmark hotel, surrounded by the Atlantic on three sides and the Namib Desert on the fourth. Widely regarded as one of the best hotels in Swakopmund, it offers luxury rooms, sea views, and world‑class dining.

DAY 9 – Swakopmund

Anchor Day

  • Sandwich Bay

The next day is dedicated to exploring Namibia’s adventure capital. In the morning, we will set out on a catamaran across the calm waters of Walvis Bay Lagoon. You can expect close encounters with playful seals, pods of dolphins, and flocks of pelicans and flamingos. The cruise often includes fresh Namibian oysters and sparkling wine, making it both scenic and indulgent.

Next up is the 4×4 vehicles to the dramatic dunes of Sandwich Harbour, part of the Namib‑Naukluft National Park. Here, towering sand dunes plunge directly into the Atlantic Ocean, creating one of Namibia’s most iconic landscapes. Along the way, guides highlight desert wildlife, unique vegetation, and the fragile ecosystem that thrives in this meeting of desert and sea.

DAY 10 – Twyfelfontein

334 kms | 207 miles

  • Damaraland

After a delicious breakfast at your four‑star hotel, surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the Namib Desert, the group will head north toward Twyfelfontein.

Along the way, you’ll pause at Hentiesbaai, a quiet coastal town known for its fishing heritage, before continuing along the salt road to witness one of the world’s largest colonies of Cape fur seals. Lunch will be enjoyed at a quirky desert oasis in Uis, surrounded by one of Namibia’s largest cactus and succulent collections. Your overnight stay will be in Damaraland, at a lodge that blends seamlessly into the sandstone landscape and offers direct access to ancient rock engravings, desert‑adapted wildlife, and dramatic geological formations — a true Namibia experience.

DAY 11 – Ugab

165 kms | 102 miles

  • Vingerklip

Before leaving Twyfelfontein, you’ll visit Namibia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for one of the largest concentrations of ancient rock engravings in Africa. More than art, these engravings are a spiritual record of Namibia’s earliest peoples, offering a window into their rituals, beliefs, and survival in the desert.

This day is easy‑going, with few kilometers to cover and a relaxed ride before arriving at your chalet, set against striking geological formations in Namibia’s Kunene Region. From here, you’ll enjoy panoramic views and the nearby Vingerklip (“Finger Rock”). For those seeking more adventure, optional activities include zip‑lining, guided walks, and sundowner drives. Alternatively, you may simply unwind by the boma fire or relax in the pools nestled among the rocks, overlooking the famous 360° dramatic cliffs.

DAY 12 – Etosha

308 kms | 191 miles

  • Etosha

It’s time to experience the flagship of Namibia’s wildlife reserves — one of Africa’s greatest safari destinations. Before reaching Etosha, the trip pauses at a family‑run bakery, established in 1947, where golden loaves, flaky pastries, and freshly brewed coffee reflect both German heritage and Namibian flavor. From there, the ride continues to your lodge, just outside Etosha National Park.

Here, the bikes take a well‑earned rest, as motorcycles are not permitted inside the park. Instead, you’ll enjoy guided drives that bring you closer to the wildlife spectacle awaiting you. The lodge itself is a restful oasis, combining elegance with fine dining — the perfect place to savor delicious meals, unwind, and prepare for unforgettable encounters with Namibia’s wild heart.

DAY 13 – Etosha

Anchor day

  • Etosha Lions

Let the bush come alive! In the morning, you’ll head into Etosha National Park in an open safari vehicle, guided by professionals who share fascinating insights into animal behavior, birdlife, and the park’s unique ecology. Along the way, expect to see elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, and wildebeest.

With a bit of luck, rarer species such as black rhinos, honey badgers, and bat‑eared foxes may also appear. Etosha’s famous waterholes are the heart of the experience: natural gathering points where multiple species converge, creating unforgettable scenes of predator and prey sharing the same stage. With cameras ready and senses alert, every stop becomes a picture‑perfect opportunity into Africa’s wild theatre.

DAY 14 – Rundu

436 kms | 217 miles

  • Caprivi

We have a few kilometers to cover before reaching the Caprivi Strip, and though it’s a longer day on the bikes, the reward will be well worth it. The ride to Rundu is a scenic journey along mostly tarred roads in good condition. Expect wide‑open savanna landscapes, scattered acacia trees, and glimpses of rural Namibian life along the way.

We’ll pause in Grootfontein for lunch before continuing north, where the scenery gradually shifts from Namibia’s dry interior to the lush riverine landscapes of the Kavango. Your rustic riverside retreat awaits — thatched bungalows set in a relaxed atmosphere with direct access to the Okavango River. From here, you can enjoy tranquil river views, spot crocodiles basking on the banks, and watch birdlife flitting across the water as the sun sets.

DAY 15 – Divundu

198 kms | 123 miles

  • Epupa Falls

Heading deeper into Namibia’s lush riverine scenery today, the road is smooth and easy, with rewarding views of floodplains and abundant birdlife – building anticipation for the river‑based adventures ahead. Your accommodation for the evening is a welcoming riverside retreat set on the banks of the Okavango River, just downstream from Popa Falls.

Blending rustic charm with comfort, and surrounded by tranquil gardens and sweeping river views. This lodge is a gateway to Bwabwata National Park and Popa Falls, making it the perfect base for wildlife encounters, birding, and unforgettable river adventures.

DAY 16 – Divindu

Anchor Day

  • Divindu Zebras

After breakfast, we set off for Mahangu National Park, part of the Bwabwata Conservation Area to maximise wildlife viewings, where the morning game drive takes us through riverine forests, floodplains, and savanna.

This diverse landscape is home to elephants, buffalo, hippos, crocodiles, and a wide range of antelope, with predators such as lions and leopards also roaming the park. Bird enthusiasts will delight in spotting African fish eagles, kingfishers, and bee‑eaters among the more than 400 species recorded here.

After a rewarding morning of wildlife viewing, we return for lunch before experiencing an afternoon river cruise. Drifting along the Okavango River, we watch hippos wallowing, crocodiles basking, and elephants coming to drink at the water’s edge, while colorful birdlife flits across the reeds. As the sun begins to set, we enjoy sundowners on board, bringing the day to a perfect close before returning to the lodge for dinner and relaxation by the riverside.

DAY 17 – Kasane

439km | 272miles

  • Kasane

Botswana awaits with open arms! On the Namibian side, the ride takes you through wide floodplains, Kavango villages, and rich birdlife along the Okavango River. As you move into Botswana, the scenery transforms into Chobe’s wilderness – teak forests, mopane woodlands, and open savanna.

It is a longer travel day, so we head directly to the border, ensuring all documents are prepared and passports ready to streamline the process. Once through, it’s about a 45‑minute transfer to your safari lodge, where a relaxed and personalized Botswana safari awaits. Here you’ll enjoy four‑star comfort, genuine hospitality, and dining that captures the essence of Botswana’s charm.

DAY 18 – Kasane

Anchor Day

  • Kasane Elephants

Start the day with an early game drive in Chobe National Park, where elephants, buffalo, and predators roam the floodplains and mopane woodlands. The park is alive with wildlife at this hour, offering unforgettable sightings and excellent birdwatching.

After a relaxed lunch and time to unwind, the adventure continues on the water with a sunset cruise along the Chobe River. From the boat, you’ll see hippos in the shallows, crocodiles resting on the sandbanks, and elephants coming down to drink, while the sky softens into warm evening colours. With a sundowner in hand, the day settles beautifully – a balance of wildlife excitement and riverside tranquility.

DAY 19 – Zimbabwe

277 kms | 172 miles

  • Zimbabwe

Welcome to The Smoke That Thunders, famously known as Mosi‑oa‑Tunya. Today marks our final border crossing, with the route taking around three hours depending on formalities. It’s time to bid farewell to Botswana and greet Zimbabwe. Along the way, we pause at our halfway point for a quick snack and coffee break before continuing to the border.

Once in Zimbabwe, you’ll arrive at your boutique hotel – the closest to the world’s largest sheet of falling water. Here, warmth meets luxury, with hospitality and authentic African charm woven into every detail.

DAY 20 – Zimbabwe

Anchor Day

  • Victoria Falls

Begin the day with a thrilling “Flight of Angels” helicopter ride over Victoria Falls. From the air, you’ll enjoy a panoramic view of the world’s largest curtain of falling water, the Zambezi River winding through its gorges, and the spray rising like smoke. This unforgettable perspective captures the grandeur of Mosi‑oa‑Tunya – “The Smoke That Thunders.”

After landing, the group returns to Ilala Lodge and sets out on foot to explore the Falls up close. Along the pathways, you’ll encounter the roar, mist, and viewpoints that reveal the Falls from different angles. Expect rainbows in the spray and the chance to feel the raw power of the Zambezi at arm’s length. After your walk, retreat to Ilala Lodge for a relaxed lunch or coffee, with wildlife often grazing on the lawns. To celebrate the kilometers traveled and the experiences enjoyed, we rounded off the evening with a boma dinner, accompanied by the rhythm of a drumming session – a fitting celebration of our time together.

GS Africa Testimonials

Discover what makes us unique

Far More Than A Trip

Our 12 Day GS-Africa Garden Route 62 Motorcycle tour in 2026 became far more than a trip – it felt like an adventure crafted with care and passion. From the very beginning, the preparation was handled with professionalism and genuine attention to our needs. The staff was always there for us, ready to help, and their warmth made us feel supported at every moment.

The welcome on arrival set the tone: the entire team greeted us with such friendliness that we immediately felt at home. The motorcycle presentation was impressive and built real excitement for the journey ahead.

What touched us most was the extraordinary selection of accommodations. Each place had its own atmosphere – peaceful lodges, a magical glamping tent overlooking a wildlife pond, a hotel with sweeping sea views, and vibrant urban stays. These were places we would never have discovered ourselves, and each one added a unique emotional layer to the journey. Many hosts even welcomed us personally with a drink, making us feel like honored guests rather than travelers passing through.

Our motorcycles were always safely parked, giving us peace of mind. The two rest days were perfectly placed, allowing us to breathe, reflect, and enjoy the surroundings. And the Safaris – guided with expertise and passion – were truly unforgettable, the kind of moments that stay with you for a lifetime.

Breathtaking Landscapes

We recently completed the 9-day Garden Route 62 tour with 12 other participants and it was a wonderful experience! This was a trip I had been dreaming of for a long time, and I can honestly say it exceeded all my expectations.
As a couple, we rented a BMW F800 GS and all the motorcycles are new and perfectly maintained.

The itinerary takes you through breathtaking landscapes, with a great balance of well-organized activities and perfect hotel accommodations. Our guide, Steve, and our driver, Herman, were fantastic, always helpful and their genuine passion made the entire journey even more special.

A special thank you to Candi-Lee and the entire GS Africa team for their incredible professionalism and care. They provided us with all the necessary information and ensured this trip would stay in our hearts forever!
We are so happy we chose them and hope to be back soon!
